Strategies on How to Pursue Wealth and Righteousness.
(Upcoming book by Nelson Semanu & Elizabeth Boandoh-Korkor)
What does it mean to be financially drunk? Simply put, it means to lose one’s sense of spirituality and meekness coupled with the readiness and the willingness to obey God and act on His word as a result of one’s financial success, status and perceived relevance in society.
Christian entrepreneurs and professionals who are financially drunk often forget how poor they were and how God had mercy on them and prospered them over the years.
Obviously, it is not difficult to identify people who are financially drunk. There are clear manifestations, and the following constitutes some of them:
1. THEY INSIST ON SLEEPING WITH LADIES IN THE CHURCH BEFORE OFFERING ANY ASSISTANCE.
Financially drunk entrepreneurs and professionals (men, in particular) often insist on sleeping with young women in the church before assisting with employment opportunities, school fees, rent and the likes. They do that shamelessly without any regret! They simply have no mercy! They have the money and the resources to help but will not until these young ladies give in to their demands!
Interestingly, these same people who seem to be doing well financially today were helped in the past without any strings attached! May God have mercy on them!
2. THEY HAVE NO TIME TO READ THEIR BIBLE ANYMORE
Financially drunk entrepreneurs and professionals have no time for God’s word! They make all kinds of excuses for not reading the scriptures but will make time to read all the “nonsense” elsewhere and on social media including the latest gossips in town. It is not uncommon to see entrepreneurs and professionals who are always busy with one meeting or the other but have no time to read their Bible for even ten minutes in the mornings. Forget about Christian literature, they will not read that either!
Interestingly, these same people had enough time to read entire books in the Bible in a day when they were financially miserable and had lost a vote against financial independence.
3. THEY DO NOT EXERCISE FAITH FOR FINANCES ANYMORE
Financially drunk entrepreneurs and professionals see every poor person as lazy. They have become so advanced in life such that they do not believe in exercising faith when it comes to the subject of finances anymore! They rely solely on hard work as the key to financial success. They simply have no space for faith when it comes to financial success. In fact, most will even prefer to consult other mediums when things get tough in life and business. Unfortunately, these same people used to fast and pray for several days when they were extremely poor.
Today, they have become financially drunk and backslidden! Their huge financial investments in stocks, properties and the likes makes them mock others who even have similar and better investments and still look up to God for their daily provision.
4. THEY LOOK DOWN ON PASTORS AND CHRISTIAN MINISTERS
The attitude and statements made by some entrepreneurs and professionals can really be embarrassing to say the least when it comes to the kingdom. Some have no respect for pastors! Yes, we are talking about some Christian entrepreneurs and professionals in the body of Christ!
Interestingly, you may be surprised to know that some of these people were nobodies when anointed men of God laid hands and prayed for them. Today, they have become financially drunk and now see pastors and church leaders as useless people. In fact, most of them now see the work they as more important than that of pastors and church leaders.
5. THEY LOOK DOWN ON THE POOR AND THE NEEDY!
Financially drunk businesspeople often look down on the poor and the needy in society. The maltreat them and see them as burdens in society, and virtually do everything to avoid them. For some of these entrepreneurs and professionals, just 5% of their salary can do a lot for these poor and vulnerable folks in society but they will prefer to spend those monies on other unimportant personal pursuits. Simply put, they will prefer spending their hard-earned income on prostitutes, drugs and alcohol rather than helping the poor and the needy.
It may surprise you to know that some of these rich folks gave God all kinds of promises on what they will do for the poor when God blesses them. if only they will remember their pledges and promises!
6. THEY FIGHT AGAINST TITHES AND OFERINGS IN THE LOCAL CHURCH
It is sad to say that people who were nobodies in their families and societies suddenly begin to fight against the very systems that transformed their financial status and destiny.
It is unfortunate how Christian entrepreneurs and professionals who used to pay tithes and give good offerings seem not be bothered by it today simply because of their financial status. Some now prefer to give huge sums of money to other causes rather than their local churches. They have become very sophisticated and arrogant and seem uncontrollable in their local churches. Of course, they give all kinds of excuses like the church’s inability to manage their huge tithes and offerings well…but that is just a coverup.
7. THEY BEGIN TO DOUBT THE EXISTENCE OF GOD
This is the last and most dangerous state that financial drunkards get to. Yes! They get to a point where they doubt the very existence of God. Why? Because, they can now strategize and get the funds coming in without fasting and prayer. They now have access to all the ‘heavyweights’ in town. With just a phone call, they can get things done for them. They can maneuver their way through without prayer from their pastors anymore!
At this point, some conclude they do not really need God in any area of their lives. To wit, they see no reason why others should pray and depend on a supreme being called God to breakthrough financially. They also question why they should not marry as many as they want. They see the idea of marital fidelity as complete foolishness! They begin to entertain all kinds of ideas about God and the church!
Some stop attending church services with unnecessary excuses and rather make clubs, drinking spots and other entertainment spots their regular hotspot! They become so strongly attached to these things to the point where they can no longer hear the promptings of the holy spirit!
RESOLVE NOT TO BECOME A VICTIM!
It is our trust that the content of this book will help to liberate many Christian Entrepreneurs and Professionals in the church who have become financially drunk in every respect. We believe they can be set free by the power of the Holy Spirit by as they follow some of the guidelines in this book written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
